Google just supercharged its AI note-taking app NotebookLM, revealing India as its biggest user base – ahead of the US and Japan. Taiwan also ranks among the top 10 global markets for the research assistant tool.

The overhaul includes live "video summaries" that turn complex documents into narrated slideshows. For now, this feature works only in English on desktops, with more languages coming soon. The redesigned Studio interface now lets users create multiple summaries, mind maps, and reports within a single notebook.
Since adding public sharing last month, users created over 140.000 shared notebooks globally. In Asia, popular notebooks cover tax laws, teaching guides, and even journalist toolkits. One Taiwanese teacher’s notebook – designed to simplify award applications for educators – went viral after reducing administrative work.
Google also launched "Featured Notebooks," teaming with writers and nonprofits to share curated notebooks on science, travel, and education. These include original sources, Q&A sections, and interactive mind maps.
NotebookLM reads uploaded files to generate summaries, answer questions, and suggest ideas. South Korea, Vietnam, and Taiwan showed the fastest user growth in Asia. Google confirmed the tool now helps everyone "from students to government workers" digest information faster.
