Reports of 16 billion passwords exposed by Cybernews aren’t what they seem. Security experts confirm this isn’t one massive new breach but a compilation of 30 old datasets – including previously stolen credentials and malware harvests – likely containing duplicates and outdated info.

BleepingComputer and ZDNet challenged Cybernews’ alarming headline. Even Cybernews admitted data "absolutely has duplicates," making the true scale unclear. Major companies like Apple and Google haven’t suffered new breaches.
If your data might be exposed:
1、Check HaveIBeenPwned.com – Enter your email/phone to see which known breaches affect you.
2、Update compromised passwords immediately – Especially if reused across sites. Use strong, unique combinations.
3、Enable 2-factor authentication (2FA) – Adds a critical extra security layer to accounts.
4、Try passkeys where available – Uses biometrics or PINs instead of passwords for stronger protection.
Password managers like 1Password can monitor leaks and alert you. For financial accounts, contact providers about suspicious activity. While the "16 billion" figure appears inflated, any exposed data means criminals could access it. Stay alert – not panicked – and secure your accounts today.
