Apple plans to start making foldable iPhones as early as next year, challenging Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Flip7 with rumored dual-screen technology. The move triggered massive trading in Taiwanese component makers this week.

Leaked images suggest Samsung's Flip7 will feature edge-to-edge outer displays and possibly screens on both sides when folded. Compared to the current Flip6's 3.4-inch cover screen, the Flip7 is expected to offer a larger 4-inch display in a thinner body.
"Foldables target specific users who want compact devices or phone-tablet hybrids," said tech expert Liao Ahui. Samsung will unveil its official design next month.
Meanwhile, Apple's prototype shows a palm-sized golden casing opening to a full screen, with a miniature display on the exterior. Production could begin in 2026. generating excitement among Apple fans.
"Apple rarely makes 'me-too' products," Liao noted. "Their approach to folding mechanisms might surprise us."
Taiwanese hinge manufacturers saw record trading volumes following Apple's news. New Sunrising shares hit unprecedented activity with 80.000 shares traded worth approximately $6.1 billion on Thursday – second only to TSMC that day.
"Unlike regular iPhones, foldables need hinges," explained analyst Wang Rongxu. "But don't expect these stock surges to last forever – markets need breathers too."
The foldable market heats up as both tech giants prepare thinner designs with expanded screens, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown.
