Google just rolled out "Search Live," a new feature that lets you chat with its search engine using your voice. Available now in the U.S. for iOS and Android Google app users, it turns searching into a back-and-forth conversation.

To try it, turn on the AI mode in Google Labs. Tap the new "Live" icon, ask your question aloud, and Google replies instantly with an AI-generated voice. You can ask follow-ups immediately—no typing or tapping needed. For example, ask "How do I keep a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?" then naturally add, "What’s the best folding method?" or "Does fabric type matter?"
The tech uses a special version of Google’s Gemini AI built for smooth voice talks. It keeps working even if you switch apps—handy while cooking or walking.
But there’s a catch: While small source cards appear at the bottom, people using voice-only might skip visiting actual websites. Some worry this could hurt creators who rely on web traffic.
Google also plans to add visual search soon. Point your camera at anything—like a math problem or confusing sign—and ask questions about what you see. This "see-and-ask" feature, teased at May’s Google I/O event, aims to make search even more intuitive.
For now, Search Live reshapes how millions get answers—just by talking.
