Buyers of used DJI drones and cameras face a major new hurdle. Starting yesterday, DJI no longer helps secondhand owners unlock devices tied to previous accounts. Only the original purchaser can now remove DJI products from their account.

This policy shift affects popular drones like the Mavic and Mini series, handheld gimbals, and enterprise gear. If you buy used and find it locked to someone else’s account, DJI support can only ask the original owner—via email or phone—to unlock it. If that person doesn’t respond, the device stays locked.
DJI won’t force-unlock devices for new owners. The change aims to boost security but complicates resales. Before selling any DJI product, original owners must first unlink it in the DJI Fly app under "Device Management."
For buyers: Check if a used DJI device is unlocked before paying. Without the original owner’s help, that drone or camera might be useless.
