At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple introduced macOS 26 Tahoe, a major software update packed with tools to speed up workflows and enhance creativity. The system’s standout feature, called “Quick Keys,” lets users type short phrases or natural language into Spotlight to jumpstart tasks instantly. For example, typing “sm” opens the Messages app, while “cal” brings up Calendar.

Tahoe also debuts a fresh look inspired by “Liqui Glass,” a shimmering design that spreads across the Dock, icons, and menus. Users can now customize folder colors, while new widgets blend smoothly into the desktop. The update adds “Live Activities” to the menu bar, showing real-time updates from iPhone apps like flight statuses or ride-hailing details. A new Phone app allows Mac users to make and answer iPhone calls directly on their computers, complete with call screening and hold features.

Beyond speed and style, macOS 26 integrates AI into everyday tasks. Spotlight can now run app-specific commands and third-party tools, while Clipboard history keeps track of copied text for quick reuse. Shortcuts gains AI-powered automation, letting users train custom workflows. Apple also announced Apple Games, a new hub for developers, alongside Metal 4 graphics tech and Genmoji, a tool for creating animated emojis.

Other upgrades include real-time translation for messages, FaceTime contact posters for visual calling, and improved multitasking options. The system will roll out this fall, free for all compatible Macs. Apple said the changes aim to make macOS faster, smarter, and more personal for both casual and power users.
