Apple is reportedly preparing a big change for its smartwatches. The next update, called watchOS 26. will let users add shortcuts from third-party apps to the Control Center. This means people can customize their Apple Watch with tools like smart locks, water trackers, or fitness timers—features that weren’t allowed before.

Right now, the Control Center on an Apple Watch only shows built-in functions like Wi-Fi settings or battery levels. But with the new update, developers will be able to create widgets for the Control Center. Users can then arrange these shortcuts using the iPhone’s Watch app, making it easier to manage than the current setup.
A trusted insider told 9to5Mac that this change is part of Apple’s plans for WWDC 2025. where it will also show off updates for iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. While AI features might not get as much attention this year, the focus seems to be on redesigns and smoother multitasking.
The WWDC keynote starts June 10 at 1 a.m. ET. No word yet if the Apple Watch update will definitely be announced then, but rumors say it’s a top priority.
