Meta has revealed detailed hardware specs for its advanced "Aria Gen 2" smart glasses prototype. While not yet available for consumers, these experimental glasses aim to push research in augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics.

The upgraded eye-tracking system precisely follows each eye's gaze direction, detects blinks, and estimates pupil centers. This technology could pave the way for interfaces controlled just by looking. Imagine scrolling or selecting items with your eyes alone.
Beyond vision, Aria Gen 2 packs multiple new sensors. A Photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor estimates the wearer's heart rate. Contact microphones in the nose pads filter out background noise. A special ambient light sensor (ALS) even distinguishes between indoor and outdoor light, automatically adjusting display brightness.
Get this: It now has four computer vision cameras – double the first generation. These offer a wider view and enable real-time 3D hand and object tracking. Combined with machine perception signals, this supports complex tasks like precise robotic hand manipulation. A global shutter camera also captures clear detail in varying light, like under LEDs.
Comfort gets an upgrade too. The glasses weigh about 75 grams (cost-equivalent approx. $1.39 USD based on manufacturing estimates). They feature foldable arms for easy carrying and come in eight sizes to fit different face shapes, nose bridges, and head widths.
Meta will showcase the Aria Gen 2 and conduct live demos at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) conference in the US this month, highlighting its data capture and processing abilities.
