Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging Siri secretly recorded users’ conversations and shared them with third parties. Eligible customers—those who owned Siri-enabled devices between 2014 and 2024—could receive up to $20 per device, capped at $100 per household.
The lawsuit, filed by California resident Fumiko Lopez, claimed Siri activated accidentally, capturing private chats about topics like medical visits or even “drug deals,” and funneled data to advertisers. Plaintiffs cited examples like suddenly seeing ads for Air Jordans or Olive Garden after discussing them near an Apple device. While Apple denied wrongdoing, stating Siri “protects privacy,” it opted to settle.
To qualify, users must prove they owned devices like iPhones, MacBooks, or HomePods during the specified period. Claims require either a purchase receipt, device serial number, or linked email address. Over 26 million people may be eligible, but individual payouts could shrink depending on claim volume.
“I got an email about this last week—it took five minutes to file,” said one Reddit user who owns three iPhones and an iPad. Another joked, “At least Siri’s finally paying *me* for once.”
The deadline to submit claims is July 2. 2025. Approved payments, expected after an August 1 hearing, will arrive via check or digital transfer later this year.
