Apple has abruptly pulled its iPadOS 17.7.7 update, released last week for older iPads, after widespread reports of apps repeatedly logging users out. The problematic update, meant for devices like the 6th-gen iPad and 10.5-inch iPad Pro, triggered chaos for some users, forcing Apple to halt its rollout entirely by Saturday.
Frustrated users flooded forums like Reddit and MacRumors, detailing how apps including YouTube, Wikipedia, and X (formerly Twitter) reset to their initial setup screens after every launch—erasing saved logins and preferences. One Reddit user, National_Case748. described constant logouts despite trying fixes like resetting settings, enabling cookies, and even performing a full factory reset. “Nothing worked. It’s like the update wiped my iPad’s memory,” they wrote.
Apple has not officially explained the glitch but swiftly stopped “signing” the update—blocking further installations—before removing it from its servers. The company has a history of pulling buggy updates, though this marks one of the more disruptive cases in recent months.
The withdrawn update targeted iPads incompatible with the upcoming iPadOS 18. leaving affected users stuck on older software until a fix arrives. Apple has yet to announce a timeline for a revised version.
