Apple has rolled out its iOS 18.5 update, unlocking satellite communication capabilities for older iPhone 13 models. Previously limited to iPhone 14 and newer devices, the feature allows users to send emergency messages, request roadside assistance, and share locations via satellite when cellular or Wi-Fi networks are unavailable.

The update also fixes a black screen issue affecting some Apple Vision Pro apps. To celebrate Pride Month in June, iOS 18.5 introduces a new "Pride Harmony" lock screen wallpaper. Parents will now receive alerts if their child attempts to bypass "Screen Time" restrictions, and a "Purchase with iPhone" option has been added for buying Apple TV content on third-party devices.
Satellite connectivity requires built-in hardware, originally exclusive to iPhone 14 and later models. The expansion to iPhone 13 gives millions of additional users access to critical communication tools in remote areas.
The update is available globally starting today.
