Google is rolling out access to its Gemini AI chatbot for children under 13, but with strict guardrails: accounts must be managed by parents via the Family Link app, the company announced this week. The move aims to let kids ask questions, craft stories, or get homework help—while blocking age-inappropriate content.

Parents will receive emails outlining how to set up supervised access. Google warns that Gemini, like all AI tools, may still spit out errors or misinformation. “Guardians should teach kids to double-check responses,” the company stated, also urging families to avoid sharing sensitive personal data with the AI.
The decision comes as critics raise concerns about AI’s risks to young users, including privacy leaks and exposure to harmful content. While Google stresses safeguards, experts caution that no filter is foolproof. “AI isn’t perfect—parents need to stay involved,” said one child safety advocate.
