Just months after scrapping two unannounced live-service titles following the disastrous Concord launch, Sony is doubling down with a fresh PlayStation studio—TeamLFG—focused solely on multiplayer hits.

Sony’s New Studio TeamLFG Bets on Live-Service Games After 0M Flop

The studio, formed by Bungie veterans and developers behind Destiny, Halo, and Fortnite, aims to blend fighting games, MOBAs, and “frog-type” humor into a sci-fi fantasy world. “We want players to log in and find friends already online, creating memes and myths together,” the team said in its debut announcement.

Sony’s Hermen Hulst called the project “ambitious,” highlighting TeamLFG’s mix of industry veterans and fresh talent. While details remain scarce, insiders speculate the game, codenamed Gummy Bears, could revive a shelved Bungie concept.

The move follows Sony’s live-service rollercoaster: Concord burned $300M before flopping, while Helldivers 2 became a 2024 smash. “You can’t win if you don’t play,” shrugged one analyst, referencing Sony’s high-risk bets.

TeamLFG plans early player testing to refine its "nimble" live-service model. “We’ll build with fans, not just for them,” the studio pledged, aiming to avoid Concord’s fate.

Based in Bellevue, Washington, TeamLFG’s debut title promises chaotic co-op and endless memes. For Sony, it’s another spin of the live-service roulette wheel—but this time, with frogs.
