ChatGPT may soon let users pay by the week instead of the month, according to code snippets found in its latest app update. The leaked details suggest OpenAI is experimenting with a $20 weekly plan and a pricier lifetime subscription to attract budget-conscious students and temporary users.

Currently, ChatGPT Plus costs $20 monthly (approx. 640 TWD), with annual plans only available for higher-tier Team or Enterprise accounts. The new weekly option, spotted in app code by Android Authority, could lower the barrier for short-term projects or exam prep. Lifetime access — likely priced steeply due to uncertain AI costs — targets superusers who want unlimited, long-term use.
While OpenAI hasn’t confirmed the plans, the move aligns with rivals like Google, which is reportedly prepping an annual "Google One AI" subscription. Neither company has shared launch dates.
The code also includes phrases like "Upgrade to Plus" and “annual pricing,” but no exact figures for weekly or lifetime tiers. If rolled out, the changes would mark ChatGPT’s first major pricing shakeup since 2023.
