NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang urged U.S. lawmakers to ease AI chip export restrictions to China, calling the country’s $50 billion AI semiconductor market "too big to ignore" in a CNBC interview.

Huang argued that cutting off access would hurt U.S. revenue, jobs, and global tech leadership. “Let Americans do what we’re great at—compete and win,” he said, warning that overly strict bans could backfire on national security goals.
The plea comes as NVIDIA faces financial fallout from tightened export rules. The U.S. recently blocked sales of its China-specific H20 AI chips, forcing the company to write off $5.5 billion in inventory and contracts. NVIDIA shares have dipped 15% this year despite a projected 65% revenue jump to $43.1 billion for its May 28 earnings report.
Huang acknowledged China’s growing AI prowess, naming Huawei as “one of the toughest competitors globally.” He stressed urgency: “The world is desperate for AI. Let’s put America’s tech at the forefront.”
While NVIDIA adapts to regulations—designing less powerful chips for compliant markets—Huang insists collaboration, not isolation, secures U.S. dominance. “China isn’t lagging. We need to lead *with* innovation, not barriers.”
