Just weeks after hosting a half-marathon for humanoid robots, Beijing is doubling down with the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games, set to take over the city’s iconic Bird’s Nest stadium and Ice Ribbon arena from August 15-17.

Organized by the Beijing city government, state broadcaster CCTV, and global robotics groups, the event will feature 19 competitive categories, including robot sprints, soccer matches, freestyle gymnastics, and group dance-offs. Non-humanoid bots can join three side events: basketball, badminton, and table tennis—designed for crowd interaction.

To compete, robots must meet strict criteria: they need a torso, arms, legs, and self-contained power, with no external markers allowed. Teams can control bots remotely or let them act autonomously. “Think Olympic athletes, but with circuit boards,” said a coordinator.

This follows April’s robot half-marathon, where bipedal machines raced 13.1 miles. The August games aim to push boundaries further, testing agility, coordination, and AI decision-making under pressure.

No tickets are on sale yet, but tech enthusiasts are already buzzing. Will a robot break the 100-meter dash record? Can a drone slam-dunk? Tune in this summer to find out.
