SanDisk has launched the *Extreme Portable SSD*, a PlayStation 5-licensed storage drive designed to let gamers take their library on the go. Priced at $120 for 1TB and $187 for 2TB, the sleek white-and-blue drive solves two headaches: slow Wi-Fi and endless game downloads.

Here’s how it works: Store PS4 games or backup copies of PS5 titles on the SSD, then plug it into a friend’s console or a secondary PS5 (like a studio setup). After a quick online verification of your PSN account, you’re ready to play—no hours-long installs.
While the PS5 still can’t run games directly from external drives, the SSD’s USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds hit 1,000MB/s, transferring full games in minutes. “I moved *Horizon Forbidden West* in under three,” said a beta tester.
Built for rough handling, the drive boasts IP65 dust/water resistance and survives 10-foot drops. It’s also compatible with PCs, iPhones, and Android devices—though reformatting is required for non-PS5 use.
For travelers or gamers stuck with spotty internet, this could be a lifesaver. Just remember: PS5 games need to stay on the console’s internal storage.
Pre-orders start this week.
