A premature retail listing just gave us our first real look at Sony’s upcoming flagship earbuds, the WF-1000XM6. The product page appeared on Thai retailer Power Buy before being quickly pulled, but not before screenshots made the rounds on X (via user @Zuby_Tech) and Reddit.

The leaked images show a clear departure from the WF-1000XM5. The new buds are noticeably slimmer and more streamlined—less of the rounded, almost pebble‑like shape that defined the last two generations. The charging case also got a redesign: it’s now more rectangular, moving away from the “puffy mushroom” look of the XM5. The glossy finish appears to be gone, replaced by a matte texture. Two colors are shown: off‑white and black.
More Mics, Better ANC and Call Quality
According to information spotted by TheWalkmanBlog, the WF-1000XM6 may pack four microphones per earbud—one more than the XM5. More mics typically translate to two things: clearer voice pickup for calls and a stronger foundation for adaptive noise cancellation, especially Sony’s “Adaptive Sound Control” that adjusts to your environment in real time. Expect the XM6 to push further into the territory Bose has been dominating with the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds.
DSEE Ultimate Finally Comes to Sony’s TWS Flagship
The real headline is under the hood. Leaked FCC filings suggest the WF-1000XM6 will be the first Sony personal audio product to feature DSEE Ultimate (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine Ultimate). That’s Sony’s AI‑driven upscaling technology, previously reserved for high‑end Walkman players and select over‑ear headphones.
Here’s why that matters: DSEE Ultimate uses machine learning to restore high‑frequency detail lost during compression. If it works as advertised, it could reduce your reliance on LDAC or other high‑bitrate codecs. That means you can stream from Spotify, YouTube Music, or any AAC/SBC source and still get closer to hi‑res quality—without burning through mobile data or dealing with buffering. For iPhone users (stuck on AAC), this could be a genuine upgrade.
Expected Pricing: $320 in the US
The now‑removed Power Buy page listed the WF-1000XM6 at 11.990 Thai Baht, which converts to roughly $380 USD. But regional pricing is rarely a straight currency conversion. Earlier rumors pointed to a $319–$329 price in the US market. That would put them just above the XM5’s launch price of $299. which sounds plausible given the added AI chip and mic array.
Release Date: Not Official, But Soon
Sony hasn’t announced a launch date. But when a product shows up on a retailer’s backend—complete with photos and pricing—a formal unveiling is usually weeks away, not months. Expect an announcement sometime in late Q1 or early Q2 of 2026.
Quick Take
The WF-1000XM6 isn’t a revolutionary redesign, but it’s a meaningful evolution. The slimmer fit should improve comfort for smaller ears. The fourth microphone could finally close the call‑quality gap with the AirPods Pro 2. And DSEE Ultimate, if implemented well, might make the XM6 the first TWS earbuds that sound genuinely better with compressed sources.
We’ll reserve final judgment until we get a production unit on the test bench. But based on this leak, Sony’s next noise‑canceling flagship looks like a smart, focused upgrade—not just a spec bump.
Stay tuned for the full review once Sony makes it official.
